CASE STUDY 1: TELSTRA P1 TELEPHONE EXCHANGE CHATSWOOD
A TOTAL RE-CLADDING OF THE BUILDING IN ALPOLIC FR
CHALLENGES:
Removal of existing porthole windows due to non standard installation method i.e windows were fixed to cladding panels only and not to structural members. As a result, it was not possible to remove and reuse window frames without damaging them. AIS designed and proposed a dummy window system which was eventually approved by BM and Telstra. The end result being virtually indistinguishable from the original windows.
Removal and disposal of over 120 tonnes of existing panels.
Installation and movement of 17 swing stages including custom fabrication of a narrow swing stage to fit between Telstra and neighbouring building glass awning.
Procurement of materials including HEBEL circular block system, which had to be cut by water jet in Western Australia.
Curving of panels to match original.
